Changing Keyboards

The following is information on how to configure your American style keyboard
to type Spanish characters.  Although the pictures are of a computer running
Windows 2000, the steps are VERY similar for Windows 98 / ME / XP.  I do
not have these operating systems, so I cannot provide much help, sorry.

On to the setup!  (It's pretty easy...)

Step One, open the Control Panel

Step Two, double click on the Keyboard icon

Step Three, click on the Input Locales tab and then click Add

Step Four, select the Spanish (Mexico) Input locale,
and the United States-International Keyboard layout/IME,
then click OK

Your Input Locales tab should look similar to this now...
If the English option does not have that cute little check
next to it, click on English once and then click Set as Default.
When done, click OK.

With all of this done, you should have an extra icon on your Taskbar,
next to the clock, that says EN.  This is what mine looks like...

This will probably be in the lower-right of your screen...  Yours
will most likely be different, but the Blue Boxed EN should be there.
If it isn't, well, try to see where you went wrong in the steps...

Ok, now to use this new keyboard option

This is the fun part, typing in funny characters.  Here are the steps...

Step One, open a program to type in.  I'll use notepad.

Step Two, Left-Click the EN icon by the clock once.  A little menu
should pop up.  Simply select the ES icon.

The EN icon should have changed to an ES icon.  If it didn't,
try it again.

Now, to type some letters with the funny lines, simply type the
the accent mark first, then the letter it goes with.  For example,
for ñ, first type ~ (remember to hold shift), then type the n.
The result should be a lovely ñ.  The same can be done to make
á é í ó ú ã ñ, and so on...  Just type the mark, then the letter.
If you have had Mr. Blakely, then you should know how this sounds,
"It's sooo E A S Y".  (I need to record him saying that...)

Well, that's all for that!  As you can see from the examples, it's late,
so I'm gonna catch some sleep.  Oh, one more thing...  Please do not
send me TONS of mail on how to get your International Keyboard
to work.  Doing so may result in this page getting deleted...  The
information on this page worked for me, it might not for you...
"You mileage may vary" is a good way to put it.  Use the contained
information at your own risk.  I shall not be held responsible for
damage / loss of data on your computer.  I have done my best to
make sure the info on this page is accurate, but errors can occur.

Alright, with the CYA text said, I bid you farewell and good luck.
